Respirable Crystalline Silica in the Oilfield

Moxie Media 8 minutes

Respirable crystalline silica is made of fine mineral particles that are used in frac sand. If workers breathe in excessive amounts, they run the risk of developing permanent (and preventable) health problems. To help avoid these dangerous health effects, this program provides learners with information about the potential hazards of silica exposure and the engineering controls that can be implemented to keep them safe.

This program demonstrates the importance of developing an exposure plan and preventing exposure by wearing the correct respiratory protection and PPE.
Topics Include:
Respirable crystalline silica and associated hazards.
Reducing the risk of exposure.
