Identifying Risk

Before starting any work onboard, it is important to identify the risks involved. Depending on the type of work, this can be done by external experts or by the person who will perform the task. If you do the risk identification onboard, use all available resources. Discuss the risks with your colleagues. Use your experience.

Some of the Obvious Risks Involved in This Operation Shown above Are:

  • Falling overboard.
  • Falling in the boat.
  • Head injury.

What do You Think?

What kind of precautions can be taken to lower these risks? To start with, do not launch unless all personnel in the boat are wearing their PPE (personal protective equipment). In this case, a helmet, lifejacket and a safety harness would be required.

Always use life vests and hardhats if a member of the crew would fall, and most importantly, make sure to sit down during launching.
