Introduction to Human Relations and Social Responsibilities

Human relations and social responsibilities are extremely important onboard a ship since they work hand in hand to mitigate casualties and incidents, by ensuring that the seafarers are in a happy working environment in return resulting in proper communication and good and effective teamwork.

A key component contributing to the safety of life onboard ships is the human element, and unfortunately, it is also one of the main contributors to a large number of casualties in the maritime industry. With that said, this can only be made worse by bad human relations onboard. To perform onboard operations smoothly and safely, good personal relationships among seafarers are paramount.

Human relation skills such as communication and the way to handle conflicts can help us ensure a better relationship between fellow crew members onboard.
