Chemical Tanker Basics

In this course, we introduce the processes and control measures required for loading and discharging chemical cargoes on chemical tankers.

This course introduces the emergency response documentation and responses that are used on chemical tankers. It covers the legislative requirements for procedures as well as common actions and control measures found on chemical tankers.

In this course we will introduce the guidelines and procedures for tank washing and protection. The regular tank coatings and the differences between chemical and water tank washing will be covered.

Nitrogen systems onboard are required in order to ensure that ships are compliant with the various regulations and to ensure protection of the transportation of sensitive and flammable cargoes. Nitrogen is the purest inert gas medium, hence why it is the preferred solution onboard ships where the possibility of cargo contamination is present. Having said that, it is of paramount importance for crew working on these types of ships to know the hazards of Nitrogen and its proper uses.

This course covers the main material included in the Advanced Chemical Tanker Training course as set out by STCW.
