The Importance of Media Training for All Seafarers

News|15 February 2023

We are really proud to be bringing a Seafarer Media Training Course to Seably. It is a little mentioned and a much-needed skill for seafarers of any role or rank, and indeed anyone working with or in the maritime sector.

We are really proud to be bringing a MTI Network's Seafarer Media Training Course to Seably.

Available for all of our subscribers, the course has been designed and created by MTI Network a specialist in risk management and crisis response in the shipping, energy & offshore sectors globally.

Whilst 99% of shipping goes on without the media taking any notice, there is no denying that shipping is a high-risk industry, and incidents can quickly escalate and become high profile.  The 1% of the time that something does happen, the media are scrambling to get the best angle, the most dramatic image and the most shocking content.

This makes seafarers, or anyone involved with the company, a high-risk target for the media or liable to make costly and distressing mistakes on social media innocently. With today's media landscape and our appetite for instant news at our fingertips, equipping seafarers with the skills to protect themselves and their friends and families should an incident happen, has never been more important.

Forewarned is forearmed, and the MTI Network course coaches learners on how to be careful with information to not only handle the media but also protect their families and friends should they be approached during or after an incident. The course gives them a good understanding of the benefits and dangers of social media whilst on board, as well as best practices using realistic scenarios, videos and interactive content.

This is a relatively new course to Seably and we hope MTI Network will be bringing more expert media training content to our platform very soon. Let us know your thoughts and feedback on the MTI Network course in our chat function, it would be great to know what you think and if this course has been a benefit to you.
