All garbage and waste generated onboard should be disposed of responsibly and in accordance with the provisions of MARPOL Annex 5 where required. Vessels should have management plans and logbooks to ensure compliance with these regulations.

This course introduces the requirements of MARPOL Annex 5, as well as the different discharge requirements for regular and special areas. It then introduces the concept of a Garbage Management Plan and how this plan should be implemented and the operations recorded properly in a Garbage Record Book.
