Art Management: Environment, Care and Conservation

ArtOnSuperyachts 47 minutes

In this course, we will talk about preventive conservation, what it is and how important it is. Art placement onboard the vessel and the importance of where it is actually placed will be discussed, together with object handling and cleaning do's and don'ts. Various case studies and anecdotal disaster stories will also be included to highlight the importance of preventive conservation. Unfortunately, such disasters stem from when personnel are unaware of what it takes to care for art or sometimes even unaware that what they're dealing with, is actually Art.

Conservation is therefore an essential part of art management. It helps to preserve artworks and antiques by lessening their vulnerability to these agents of deterioration, and by repairing damage when possible. An ounce of prevention is always worth much more than a pound of cure.

After this course, the candidate will become more aware of the importance and the value that art holds and how important it is to actually be aware of where art is in the vicinity.
