Underwater Cultural Heritage and Marine Archaeology

ArtOnSuperyachts 32 minutes

Oceans occupy much of our planet's surface. Sustainability and the blue ocean are key topics. The seabed harbours many resources, containing rich history of millennia, of items lost at sea. It is estimated there are some 3 million wrecks and there is growing interest in investigating these whether the focus is protection, looting, access, information or historical investigation. There is much to learn about what goes on in the sea from a cultural heritage perspective.

The purpose of this course is to help you to understand the sea from the underwater context in which superyachts reside.

In this course, you will learn more about the ocean from a cultural heritage perspective. We will discuss the context of marine archaeology in the blue ocean and how technology enables us to discover and investigate wrecks, who the key players are and the laws that govern the sea.

Marine archaeology is a fascinating subject and is being considered increasingly in the context of explorer yachts so is important to learn more about it if you are looking to work on an explorer yacht.
