In this course, you will learn about The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. This code describes how vessels, ports and government agencies should act when it comes to security. It gives you guidance on how to act when working in the maritime industry.
The ISPS Code is a set of measures to enhance the security of ships and port facilities. It was developed in response to the perceived threats to ships and port facilities after the 9/11 attacks. The ISPS Code is part of the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS). When you have completed the course, you should be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge to undertake the duties assigned in the Ship Security Plan.
Information on how to fight or respond to security threats is not included in this course. You will rather be able to identify, deter or mitigate such actions through proper planning, preparation and coordination.
