This course is tailored for a wide range of maritime professionals, focusing specifically on the important procedures and workings of a ship’s Engine Room. Designed to provide a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, this course will guide you through the dynamics of engine room operations, ensuring compliance with global standards and regulations, mostly set by IMO.

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the Engine Room, the pivotal component of a ship's operations. It is structured into seven modules; we start by introducing the engine room, the team and the organisational management. Safety is a critical element in day-to-day life as well as in emergencies, and we shall cover all aspects, from what you should wear each day, up to how to proceed during an exceptional event in the engine room. Finally, you will gain an understanding of the operations, maintenance, guidelines and procedures of the ship’s machinery.

It is important to stress that you always orient yourself towards your engine room's specifications and follow your shipping company-approved procedures.

You will be presented with an assessment at the end of this course.

With extensive experience in maritime engineering, I bring a blend of practical sea-going expertise and academic insight to the maritime sector. Over a decade at sea, I rose to the rank of chief engineer, mentoring cadets and refining my technical skills. In addition to my sea career, I pursued advanced academic qualifications, earning a Master's Degree and a PhD in Maritime Affairs from top European universities.

Beyond academics, I have actively contributed to European maritime research projects, focusing on areas such as decarbonization, regulatory frameworks, safety, and environmental protection. Since 2017, I have transitioned into academia, where I leverage my experience to teach STCW and IMO courses to marine officers across European institutions, blending practical knowledge with academic rigor.
