The working environment on ships contains risks of ill health and accidents, but those who know them and know how to work safely can reduce them significantly. With increased knowledge of both risk and health factors in the work environment, we can make our ships safer, more secure, and pleasant workplaces.
This course aims to increase the knowledge about the risks of ill health and accidents in the working environment on ships, and how they can be avoided. We will address physical, organizational, and social risks in the work environment and provides tips on how work environments can be designed and tasks performed.
This course is developed by the Maritime Work Environment Committee (SAN) and it is based on the Maritime Work Environment Handbook. The course is intended for seafarers and other staff on board, but also those who work with, or study work environment issues ashore can complete this training. It covers current regulations regarding work environment, ergonomics, the social aspect of the workplace, physical factors at work, how to work with hazardous substances, and how to maintain and improve the work environment systematically.
