Over 90% of Officers say they rely on shipboard manuals. Procedures are a critical tool for safe and efficient shipboard operations and this series of courses, offers you an in-depth understanding, allowing you and your Company to work safer and reduce your potential for human error. This course is a MUST for any maritime professional seeking a deeper understanding of rules & procedures, safety management, improved workplace safety, incident investigation and ISM Code auditing and compliance.

In this first short course, you will be introduced to the origins of procedures, and why they exist. The course formally defines procedures in the context of RULES and other commonly referred-to terminologies. You will learn about the evolution of procedures from high-level corporate principles, to supporting shipboard security, safety and environmental compliance. You will also be introduced to the Rule Hierarchy and understand how procedures contribute to changes in conditions.

After completion of the course, you will gain a richer understanding of Rule-Based management systems and how (good or bad), routines determine the identity of an organisation. This course provides fundamental knowledge to support you through other more advanced HUMARC courses in the Rules and Procedures series.
