This course focuses on Marine Diesel engine diagnosis. The emphasis is on helping Engineers deal with the practical problems they may face on board and help them understand the cause for these. Diesel engines are the power house for propulsion and power generation. A complete understanding of Diesel Engines will always be an important professional skill for Engineers on board and ashore.

Engineers have tackled problems with machinery more by trial and error than by collective experience. A good understanding of the application, of the theory for practical troubleshooting, is invaluable and ensures they can come to the correct conclusion quickly and decisively. Diesel engines provide propulsion power and serve as prime movers for Generators on most ships. So a complete understanding of the processes, how to interpret parameters, Indicator cards and correct operations is an essential tool for any Engineer. In this course, we will learn in-depth about the combustion process, VIT, turbocharging, Indicator cards and lubrication system. The emphasis is always on the practical application of these to operations, fault finding, determining the cause and a resolution.
