Psychological distress is not always as visible as physical injuries but can be just as painful and debilitating. When people are faced with extreme situations that result in disaster, many will experience intense emotions in the form of apprehension and fear, as well as uncertainty and confusion.

In this short course, you will be introduced to Psychological First Aid, and gain knowledge about how to provide it to affected crewmembers following an emergency.

The following sections will be covered within this course: Psychological First Aid; Definition and core component; Goal of Psychological First Aid; Concrete steps; Outward reactions – hyperactivity and panic; Inward reactions – sluggishness and apathy; Hyperventilation and Zooming out.
