Oil cargo spillages are a large MARPOL concern and usually avoidable if correct procedures are followed. This course is based on a case study and explains the hazards and risks of oil cargo operations with respect to the human element and discusses ways to limit the impact of poor management of the operations.

Upon completion of this course, the candidate will understand the hazards and risks of oil cargo operations with respect to spillages and how the human element of management can compound these risks. The candidate will then learn ways of mitigating these risks through good human resource management practices.

Learning Outcomes: Define the hazards and risks of cargo operations; Explain how human factors can compound and add to the risks of oil cargo operations; & Describe good resource management techniques that mitigate the risks of the human element to cargo operations.
