Certification is required by flag states for compliance on board vessels for all food handlers. That includes the service of beverages. This is an initiative under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).

This is a short awareness of the role of a supervisor for food safety management onboard.

All food handlers under the MLC are required to have a level 2 food safety certificate for the UK flag state the MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency). However, some flag states for example Cayman Island and the Marshall Islands require Level 3 as well. It is an excellent practice that all supervisors in the food environment are trained to Level 3 so they can manage the team effectively in food safety and maintain high standards.

This short course is an introduction to the supervisor's role as part of the full L3 qualification
