This course aims to respond to the needs highlighted by the Hong Kong Convention of 15/05/2009; by Regulation (EU) no. 1257 of 11/20/2013 (amended by ‘Regulation (EU) 2024/1157’); by the Decree of the MIT of 27/05/2019; from the IHM Guidelines, resolution MEPC.269 (68) of 15 May 2015.

This incident is based on the experiences of the UK P&I Club. Accidents like the one in this course can and do happen. As you go through this course, ask yourself, "Could this happen on my ship?"

In this course, we will talk about the deadly dozen. The deadly dozen refers to twelve common conditions that can act as precursors to human error; leading to incidents. These conditions can influence people to make unintentional mistakes.

The Oil Companies International Maritime Forum's Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) program is a vital component of ISM compliance for tanker vessels, despite being a voluntary undertaking.

This course will introduce and explain Rule 15 of the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (Rules of the Road).

This course analyses different manoeuvres, and the information is backed up with real-life examples to ensure a greater understanding. A series by STANDBYENGINE called the ‘ABC of the Manoeuvre’; this course is the final chapter in the series; you should complete it all to gain a whole perspective.

Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE) is a standard assessment used by tanker owners and operators in order to identify any operational deficiencies in their fleet or their ship. VIQ – Vessel Inspection Questionnaire is a document within the SIRE, which offers and ensures ships' safety by means of additional safety precautions to all tankers. Chapter 5 of the VIQ covers safety management. In this course, we will discuss this chapter and common observations that are found by vetting inspectors with regards to safety management.

Ships are extremely complex environments, containing various hazards and risks. Due to this, a need arises to make the risks bearable in order to ensure the maximum safety of the crew, the vessel itself, and the environment. In order to achieve this result, a process to identify, evaluate and address all the risks relevant enough to endanger the crew, the vessel, or the environment is created. This risk assessment will ensure a proper analysis of the likelihood and potential consequences of each identified hazard or risk.

This course will introduce, explain and then teach you how to begin learning the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (Rules of the Road).

When working onboard, one is exposed to hazards and risks all the time. By raising awareness of the hazards, the likelihood can be decreased and thereby, also the potential risk. This course is intended to provide you with the fundamental knowledge of Risk Assessment onboard and give you a useful tool to handle potential risks.
