In this course, we will discuss what anger really is. We will look at ways to identify anger within ourselves and what signs to look for in our fellow workers.
We will look at the different parts of the brain and the reasons that we get angry, as well as the different characteristics & expressions of anger.
After discussing the different types of anger we'll move on to how we can effectively manage our anger to help ourselves and those around us.

Risk management is a key safety process. It makes you more safety- conscious in every stage of your job and helps you prevent accidents proactively.

Safety reporting deals with the gathering of information on actual or potential safety deficiencies, filing reports, and taking the necessary actions to prevent similar events from happening again. It is key to take responsibility for safety so as to build a strong safety culture.

Emergencies and disasters at sea can lead to the loss of human life. When that happens, and if no assistance from the outside has arrived, crews may have to transport deceased colleagues or passengers to holding areas on the vessel in the form of freezers. Unfortunately, minimising the negative impact on crew members, who are engaged in handling deceased human beings is a vastly overlooked issue in the wake of major incidents.

No one knows when a crisis or an emergency will occur. Therefore, it is important that an ‘Emergency Preparedness Meeting’ is held as soon as the Master or the CE signs on. In this short course, you will be introduced to a version of an Emergency Preparedness meeting which may be novel to you.

It is important to develop cultural understanding to improve communication across cultures during work and off-work time aboard. Further, understanding cultural differences & similarities as well as reaching a cultural self-awareness level to help the crew avoid and manage conflicts caused by multi-culturalism.

For the employee, some of the important benefits include increased communication with teammates, better morale and more trust. For organisations, it can mean increased productivity, healthier company culture and more chances to identify and nurture talent within the workforce.

Giving and receiving feedback can be challenging, but it is crucial to maintaining healthy work relationships.

Just culture is a work culture in which crew members do not fear to report errors, own as well as of others because they know that it is important not only for the organisation to learn from these honest mistakes but also for the seafarers’ safety on board. It is also a culture where deliberate misconduct may result in disciplinary action.

This course is designed to teach maritime security professionals a basic understanding of how to deal with barricaded individuals or those who take hostages.
